MISSION STATEMENT

To fulfill the Great Commission commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 28:

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

—with the hope and expectation that some who enter into the Orthodox Christian Church and embrace the Church’s faith will also become members of our parish, St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Warren, OH

Get Involved!

It's always a good time to get involved with the Mission and Outreach team at Saint John's! Having completed the Journey to Fullness series from Ancient Faith, hosted by Fr. Barnabas Powell, we learned A LOT. During the course of the series we spent time together revisiting the core beliefs of our faith, taught and expressed in this series by Fr. Barnabas in a way that facilitates incredible discussion.

Through our discussion we learned how to better understand our faith so we can better witness our faith. Not only that, all of us are recieved the same education at the same time, which makes for a more cohesive parish when it comes to welcoming guests and answering any questions they may have.

Along with our Journey to Fullness class (completed in August of 2023), our group co-chairs offer countless learning opportunities through podcasts, interviews, guest speakers, and forums/workshops off site. In July of 2023 we were able to attend the 10th Annual Parish Development Forum in Parma, Ohio where we had the opportunity to discuss mission work and strategy with fellow Orthodox Christians from all over the country. Goals of this group include, but are not limited to:

  • Fostering relationships with our neighbors
  • Building relationships with community leaders
  • Identifying the needs of our community and working in tandum with our network to provide service and relief
  • Being an outward facing Church... if we can't see Christ in the beggar on the street, we will not find Him in the Chalice.
  • Seeking opportunities for community engagement and the welcoming of all to a Life in Christ
